My Journey as a Maths Teacher

In 1989, after graduating from Loughborough University in Maths and PE, I embarked on a fulfilling journey as a full-time Maths teacher and tutor. Since that time, I have taught in primary, secondary, and international schools, delivering well over 20,000 hours of Maths education. During this period, I also held esteemed positions in senior management, helping guide schools through exam preparation and government inspections (OFSTED).

Coaching in America

After working full-time in schools, and playing semi-professional football for ten years I moved to the States and worked as a Director of Coaching for the 2nd largest football company in the country. My remit was to bring a structured, educational approach to the coaching delivery.  I coached elite youth teams and trained football coaches across the States.  My work took me to Brazil, Italy, Holland, France and Spain where I studied  the different coaching methods. As a sports fanatic it was an incredible role and enabled me to study performance in a different context.

"Pat is an exceptional educator with outstanding skills in mentoring and designing curriculum.
He is hugely respected by his colleagues and mentees and has had a profound impact on generations of athletes and youth sports coaches.
Any athlete, coach or individual fortunate enough to work with Pat will undoubtedly realize the essence of what a growth mindset is and benefit as a result."

Masters Degree in Coaching

I returned to the UK after ten years and my fascination with the factors that influence success and peak performance led me to complete a two year Masters degree in Coaching whilst working as a Maths coach This two-year course enabled me to explore deeply the world of elite performance in the realms of sports, business, and education. From this, I distilled the key principles that underpin success.

Executive Coaching and Maths Coaching

On completion of my masters degree I shared my time between Maths tutoring and coaching business teams and leaders.  It was a fascinating time where I was able to apply all my previous experience to achieve results for my clients.

"Pat worked with the Senior Team at Rant & Rave and then within all the various departments. His remit was to improve performance and for us to become more cohesive. He delivered beyond that remit.  He's a listener, a coach and a mentor, who builds trusted relationships with great communication and transparency. As an Executive Coach, he was first class."

Maths Coaching and Academic Mentoring

I made the decision in 2018 to devote my career to  exclusively working with school students. I do this as a  Maths Tutor and more recently as an Academic Mentor.  I am passionate about education, human potential and wellbeing. I address all of these in my work and love the journey.

Pat is a great maths tutor  - but he is far more than that - he is a team player working with families and individuals to obtain the best outcomes.  He is a great mentor/role model for the young people he works with.

For the months they worked together Pat became the most important person in our sons life and his maths results went from strength to strength, as did his grades in his other subjects.

We will be forever grateful to Pat for taking us on and working with us to achieve the outcome we did.
